Both funders and grantees play a significant role within the philanthropic ecosystem. Traditionally, funders have awarded nonprofits based solely on impact-with a preference for quantitative accomplishments. While impact is indeed imperative, there are inequitable practices that must be addressed for organizations to perform at their best in order to deliver that impact. The trust-based philanthropy model seeks to address those barriers by shifting decision making power for use of funds to nonprofits, while still implementing accountability measures that are authentic to each mission. This shift, broadens the scope of support for general operating expenses—which is critical for building capacity, scaling impact and future sustainability.

Equitable Impact Measurement
